Details

Remington Hog Hammer ammunition is designed to hunt the toughest of feral hogs. This ammunition is loaded with features like nickel plated cases that provide smooth extraction and reliable feeding. Flash suppressed powder is utilized for hunting in low light when feral hogs can be at their most active. To top it off Remington uses the popular Barnes TSX bullet. Featuring all copper construction the TSX delivers deep penetration with near 100 percent weight retention and expansion to over twice the original diameter. All of this makes Remington Hog Hammer the perfect choice for the pursuit of feral hogs.

  • good groups in my handi-rifle

I shot this through my 300 Blackout handi-rifle and got 1" groups at 100 yards. I also got the same good results for the 308 hog hammer rounds I purchased for my DPMS LR-308 SST 24" upper. The wind was blowing about 15-20 mph sideways and I was still able to get right at 1" grouping. I am going out hunting and will (hopefully) update on performance in the field. I will use the 300 BO on deer and the 308 on elk. I really like the nickel coated brass and if this round performs well on game it will be my go-to round.

This round is very disappointing. My rifle has shot numerous handloads/factory loads sub-MOA at 100 yds, so I know both the rifle and I can shoot. This load, although it is quick does poorly on accuracy. Consecutive groups with this load AVERAGED 3.5" @ 100 yds. Add some breathing, excitement into the mix and you have a miss or poor hit at that distance. I have a handloaded 125 gr HP that shoots .75" so that will be my go to load. No, it's not the fabled Barnes bullet, but I can hit center with it.

Selway does a superior job in expediting shipments but even they can't test all the ammo they sell. I expected Remington to be better; I was wrong. At 100 yds group after group was the size of a grapefruit. I would then shoot the Jaminson 150 gr SP to ensure it wasn't me: MOA, group after group at 100 yds. I thought it was my upper until I went through 7 different factory/handloads. All of them, except this Remington, shot near, at or under MOA @ 100 yds. The big "R" needs to test their expensive loads more. I won't waste my money on any of their stuff again.
